Instagram gives you exactly 150 characters for your bio. That's roughly 25-30 words. Every character counts — including spaces, emojis, and line breaks.

What Counts

Every letter, space, emoji (1-2 chars each), punctuation, and line break counts. A bio like "Hi I'm Jane" uses 9 characters. Plan carefully.

Smart Shortening Techniques

  • Replace words with emojis: "coffee lover" → "☕ lover" saves 6 chars
  • Use | or • separators instead of periods and spaces
  • Abbreviate cities: "New York City" → "NYC" saves 10 chars
  • Drop articles: "I am a fitness coach" → "Fitness coach"

Common Mistakes

Don't waste characters on "Welcome to my page" — it's obviously your page. Don't pad to exactly 150 — shorter bios with punchy content outperform filler-filled ones.
